Performing Umrah begins long before you put on your Ihram. For pilgrims travelling from the USA, Canada and the UK, the first step is understanding which entry route into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia suits your journey.

Which visa do you need for Umrah?

There are three common routes for pilgrims:

  • The Umrah visa, issued through an approved Umrah agent, dedicated to worship in Makkah and Madinah.
  • The Saudi eVisa (tourist visa), which permits Umrah for eligible nationalities and allows wider travel across the Kingdom.
  • Transit and GCC-resident routes, available in limited circumstances.

Most of our guests from North America and the United Kingdom travel on an eVisa or an Umrah visa arranged as part of their package. When you book with Ibadah Travel we confirm which route applies to your passport before any deposit is taken.

Documents to prepare

  • A passport valid for at least six months from the date of travel.
  • A recent passport-style photograph with a white background.
  • Confirmed return flights and hotel bookings in Makkah and Madinah.
  • Proof of meningitis (ACWY) vaccination, and any additional requirements in force at the time of travel.

Mahram and women travelling for Umrah

Women aged 18 and over may now perform Umrah without a Mahram, travelling individually or as part of an organised group. Younger travellers are included on a guardian's booking. Sisters travelling alone often prefer one of our scholar-led groups, where accommodation, transport and daily halaqas are arranged in advance.

Health, insurance and Nusuk

Medical insurance is bundled into the visa fee for most applicants. Once your visa is issued, register on the Nusuk app to book your Rawdah slot in Masjid an-Nabawi and your permits for the Haram.
