If you're reading this, chances are Hajj 2027 is already on your mind.
Maybe you've been thinking about it for years. Maybe you've recently decided that 2027 is the year you want to try. Or maybe you're still figuring out whether you can realistically make the trip happen.
Either way, you're early, and that's a good thing.
Hajj preparation doesn't begin when registration opens or packages are announced. There are several things you can do even now that will put you in a much better position when the time comes, from making your niyah to getting logistics in order.
Here are five places to start.
1. Make your niyah
Start there.
Before the planning, the savings, the passports and the logistics, there is the intention.
Make your niyah for Hajj and begin asking Allah SWT to make the journey possible for you. You may not know yet how everything will come together, and that's okay. You don't need to know what your package will look like, exactly how much it will cost, or how you'll work the trip around your family and work commitments.
Start with the intention and the dua.
Ask Allah to invite you to His House, make the journey accessible to you, provide for it, and accept it from you. Ask Him to make the process easy and to allow you to arrive prepared.
Then, start taking the steps that come with that intention.
Your Hajj may not begin until you arrive in Makkah, but the preparation starts much earlier.
2. Get your finances and logistics in order
Once you've made the intention, it's time to start looking at what it will take to actually get yourself there.
For many North American and European pilgrims, Hajj packages fall somewhere in the $11,000–$18,000 (USD) range per person. Of course, there are options that are both above and below this range. Your actual cost will depend on your specific package (which will include accommodations, length of stay, flights and other arrangements), but having a realistic ballpark gives you a useful starting point.
You can begin saving and planning toward that target now, even before 2027 packages are announced. Look at what you have available, decide what you can realistically put aside each month, and start building toward it. The earlier you start, the less pressure there is to come up with a large amount all at once. Remember, when you book Hajj, your entire payment will be due upfront.
But finances are only one part of getting ready.
Check your passport expiration date. If it will expire within six months of your anticipated return date, you may have trouble obtaining a visa. For Hajj 2027, that means paying particular attention if your passport expires around December 2027 or earlier, depending on your actual travel dates. If you're anywhere near that window, renew it well ahead of time rather than waiting until you're already in the middle of Hajj planning. Right now, the US State Department estimates 4-6 weeks for passport renewals.
Look at your PTO. We generally recommend planning for 8–12 PTO days for Hajj, depending on your travel arrangements. You don't need to submit your request yet, but check your company's policies and make sure you understand how much time you'll have available, and start planning accordingly.
Think about childcare. If you have children, start considering who will care for them and what that arrangement would look like while you're away. These conversations are much easier to have when you aren't working against a deadline. Saudi regulations currently prohibit children 15 years old and younger from performing Hajj, largely due to safety concerns.
Talk to your travel companions. If you're going with family or a larger group, start discussing priorities around budget, accommodations, length of stay and mobility. The more aligned everyone is before packages become available, the easier those decisions will be when sales start.
You don't have to finalize all of this today. The goal is to identify what needs to be handled and give yourself enough time to handle it properly.
3. Start getting your steps in
There's another part of Hajj preparation you can start today: walk.
Hajj is physically demanding, and it's easy to underestimate how much walking is involved. Depending on your arrangements and the particular day, you may find yourself walking the equivalent of a half marathon, all while navigating crowds, spending long periods on your feet, dealing with heat and carrying your belongings.
If you're not accustomed to that level of activity, a few weeks isn't enough time to build your stamina comfortably.
Fortunately, right now, you have months.
Start making walking a regular part of your week. If you currently walk very little, begin with a manageable distance and gradually build from there. As Hajj gets closer, you'll want to be comfortable spending significant amounts of time on your feet.
This is also the time to figure out your footwear. Pay attention to where you develop discomfort or blisters, and experiment with what works while you still have plenty of time to make adjustments. It's also never a bad idea to figure out which shoes you will want to be using during Hajj and start breaking them in.
The goal isn't to become an athlete before Hajj. It's to arrive prepared for the physical demands of the journey.
4. Create your Nusuk profile
If you're planning to perform Hajj, create your profile and register your interest for Hajj. Doing this now means you're not trying to set up your account while also keeping up with Hajj registration and package information once the season gets underway.
Hajj planning can move quickly, and there can be a lot of information to process in a short amount of time. Having the basics taken care of gives you one less thing to worry about when you're ready to make bigger decisions.
Create your profile, register your interest, familiarize yourself with the platform, and keep an eye on official updates as they become available.
You'll be ready when it matters.
5. Stay connected to a community
And finally, stay connected.
If you're reading this from our Telegram or Whatsapp group, you've already checked this one off. If you're not, this is a great spot for us to call you to join our Telegram or Whatsapp group.
There's a reason we encourage people to get connected early rather than waiting until Hajj sales are underway. Once the process begins, information can move quickly. There are announcements to follow, deadlines to understand, questions to answer and decisions to make.
Having a community you trust gives you somewhere to keep up with what's happening as the Hajj process develops.
As we move toward Hajj 2027, we'll be using our community to share important announcements, live updates, practical guidance and information as it becomes available. It's also a place to ask questions, learn from other pilgrims and start thinking through things you may not have considered yet.
The earlier you get plugged in, the more useful the community becomes.
